Great Hornbill

2 comments:

  1. First off, truly amazing photographs!

This is the only bird (some hornbill species, right?) I can identify from your collection here but the tree on which it is perched looks like the Bluepine to me. And from my little experience this type of birds are mostly found in the subtropical parts of our country. Could this be related to the effects of climate change or my world is too small?

    Enjoyed your collection.

  2. Hi Anonymous

Yes, this is the Great Horbill and was shot in Tingtingbi in Zhemgang area. This is an endangered bird but in Bhutan they are found all over the country - at lower altitudes.

The tree on which the bird is pirched is not Blue Pine - but Chir Pine (Pinus roxburghii)which grows at lower altitudes such as Wangdue, Lemithang etc. If you click on the image, a larger image will open and you will notice that I have labeled the image.
