A Final Request to Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa

The two parties - DPT and the PDP - have only one day in which to finalize their list of candidates who will represent their respective parties in the General Round of 2013 elections. And, by the morning of the 14th July, 2013, the nation will know which of the two parties will form the government and which will be in the Opposition.

On the 13th of July, 2013, the people of Bhutan will deliver their collective verdict - as to which party should form the next government. Thereafter, the decision will be irreversible. All of us have to accept the collective wisdom of the people - no amount of lamenting will alter anything. Nonetheless, until that moment, each of us cannot help but hope that the party each of us support would win the elections and go on to form the next government. Towards that end, each of us will do what we must, to ensure that victory is on our side. And, none of us would be wrong to do what we must - to put the party we think is best for the country - to power. Because, most of us are driven by the power of our own convictions - why a certain party is better than the other.

Unlike some who accuse me of being a DPT mouthpiece, I do not accuse others of being a PDP mouthpiece. The PDP supporter has as much right and freedom to his/her convictions as I do to mine - and I am not going to say that theirs is wrong. For the record, I am not a DPT mouthpiece and I do not really care if I am accused of being one - for, I know that they are being irresponsible in saying so. If anything, I am a mouthpiece of the country and the King. I will shamelessly support the party that I believe is best for these two.

I know that all the parties and most of their candidates have the very best intention for the country - but I am not convinced that all the parties and all of their candidates have the capability and experience to best protect the interest of the country and the King. Good intentions are not enough - it has to be backed with competence and capability.

As the day is closing in on the two parties to finalize their candidate list, I am hearing some strange and demoralizing rumours. There is talk that the President, the Vice President and some of the founding members of the DNT are migrating to the PDP. I hope that this is not true. However, if it is true, then it is a political scandal without precedence - anywhere else in the world!

The DNT candidates have a duty to the nation. They have to bear in mind that as pioneers in the democratic process - how they behave at this formative stage will determine the course of Bhutan's democratic culture.

No amount of explaining can justify how there is merit in the President, the Vice President and the founding members of a party deserting the very party they formed. What of their responsibility to their other members who placed their faith and trust in them? What of the party itself? What of the Constitutional intent that discourages collusive politics?

As I have reminded some of the DNT members, its leaders should understand that 2013 is not the end of the world. Their time will come and therefore, they should have the patience and the resilience to bid for their time. Everything is pre-destined and nothing will happen before time. No one may preempt destiny.

If they go ahead with the move to PDP, there will be a hundred questions that will pop up. In the end, it will be their undoing. People will not forget their vile and despicable behavior. If they go ahead with the move, they have to be prepared for the backlash that is imminent. They have to answer questions that, as of now, remain unasked.

I hope and pray that common sense will prevail upon the DNT leadership.

  1. Yeshi, i have read most of ur blogs. I find them interesting.. i am of view that the collusion between DNT and PDP would be better for our country and the government.. DNT has very good candidates and their wisdom and contribution to law-making and overall development of the country will be enormous if they are a member of Parliament.
i believe that DPT has an upper edge in governing the country because of its experienced members and JYT.. But, not all the members are of equal caliber. Some of then ll lose this election.
I do not see the threat to DPT even if DNT joins PDP. DPT would still win from more constituency..But we could have a strong opposition if they merge. its better for the country.
Yes, DNT as a party have no future hope if they collude with PDP.. But the precedence has already been set in 2008 and i do not think its going to change and DNT not joining PDP would do any good..
But, there may be drawbacks and consequences if they do collude.. i am new to politics and i lack deeper understanding..
Please write a new blog of the consequences of such collusion..enlighten me please...

    1. I am afraid this Yeshi is a DPT media person what ever said. It now showing more n more, he can't help hide it. Now he reached the point of begging DNT not to join PDP, poor guy. Better he keep to his bird watching!

    2. Begging DNT not to join PDP, of course two loser parties joining to form one bigger losing party, I think, Yeshi did not mean it, but then if the DNT President has no morals, go ahead.

  2. DNT must go ahead with what they feel the best for the nation at large - be it DNT as a party or as individuals, subject to election laws, though Bhutanese politics is turning out to be quite dirty. Good luck.

    1. I agree, if the best candidates can come back and if it is like Mr. Yeshi says, "for the country" they should join.

    2. So you really don't give a shit about a party president abandoning her own party, the party she formed, you need to see a shrink quickly man.

  3. Hi Mr Author,

Are you afraid that merging of DNT and PDP will defeat DPT which have practice all sorts of illegal things to remain in power?, I don't want to waste my precious time narrating all the deceptive practice conducted by the DPT including false promise at the individual level. Do not worry much about the dirty politics trend set by no other than DPT itself from 2008. Both the kuensel and BBS colluded with the former government informing the nation as "Horse trading", which they literally don't understand what horse trading really means?. The DNT candidates do not represent parliament at the moment and question of horse trading does not imply at this juncture.

  5. I could not agree more on the precedence this sets and the consequences that DNT as a party will suffer. Ideologies and parties make little sense & it is as if DNT has been fooling the people of Bhutan. Yes, possibly the parliament might gain a few capable candidates; but I would rather not vote for them because for me they have somehow proven to be bereft of principles, at least the kind I would like to see in leaders. There can be nothing more dangerous than leaders without principles.

  6. Heard DNT President and some members are already PDP. Well like most things in life people do what they think is correct.Their decision is base on individual's benefit. Thus I am not so effected in any of such fuss though.

Though I appreciate your energy in keeping close watch. Also appreciate your Mark Antonian's writing( check his funeral speech).

  7. IF AUM DORJI AND OTHERS WANT MINISTERIAL POST, THEY COULD HAVE EASILY JOINED DPT, WHO WERE DESPERATE TO TAKE THEM. BUT THE FACT THAT THE CHOSE PDP, A WEAKER PARTY SPEAKS VOLUMES OF THEIR INTENTIONS AND WHAT THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT.

    1. Where did you learn that DPT was desperate to take them, the party made it very clear that they would have nothing to do with any kind of horsetrading.

  8. Dear Aue Yeshey, I tried in one of my last entries to opine about the recent political scenario but words dried up midway. I have always cherished your entries in your blog except the recent ones in which you vehemently tried to stand against the fusion of PDP and DNT. I feel that our country would gain much from this strategy although it sets bad precedence in political culture. We can not have any pride in stating that we have capable candidates but bench-warming in the greenroom. We need these members in and make meaningful decisions for the country.
    WIth much respect.

  9. 2008 I am the wolf and go begging for vote and get thrown out. 2013 I go back in sheep's clothing and promise the very same people with diffrent Idealogy. People believed in it and give me all the support to represent them. Now comes this week I am back to my old self wolf. That would take lots of explaining to the very same people who choose to represent them. Only the final result will tell the tale of deciet. People in rural are not stupid as we make them out to be. It is not about PDP but more about the take on individual moral choosing to fool the people. Meanwhile I am desperately trying to find Aum Dorji Choden's facebook to write a orbitury of her poliyical carrier. But i couldn't find one. She haven't created one as if she knew what is coming for being such a sly. Anyway. I wish her all the best.

  10. After all the explanation, these PDP trolls still can't understand.

  11. Alas, common sense did not prevail; the temptation was just too much for DNT. I now understand that you have only a part of the DNT logo atop your website to show how tentative DNT is.
